Competitions Team Update – April 24

The Competitions Team have submitted the following update…

Merit League: Fielding Ineligible Players

At NLD, we prioritise the safety and enjoyment of all participants in our Merit League and other social rugby offerings. While we aim to foster a spirit of friendly competition, it’s important that every game provides a fair and enjoyable experience for players, officials, and spectators alike.

Recently, a concern was raised regarding the inappropriate inclusion of higher-level players in matches. Upon thorough investigation, it was determined that this issue had merit and could have serious consequences for the clubs involved.

This could potentially lead to formal disciplinary actions, including citations under section 5.12.

Following our mid-season review, we want to reiterate that any such instances will be treated with the utmost seriousness. Our stance fully aligns with Regulation 6 of the RFU and the guidelines set forth by ROCs (Regional Organising Committees), for the safety of players and to ensure an equitable competitive game environment. These principles are clearly outlined in Regulation 1 of the NLD RFU Merit Tables 2023-24 Regulations, which echoes the criteria of RFU Regulation 6.40.

In the event of a complaint, it will be thoroughly investigated, and sanctions will be imposed in accordance with RFU Regulation 6.87. We are committed to upholding the integrity of our competitions and appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these regulations.

Let’s continue to enjoy rugby in a safe and fair environment.

NLD Competitions Updates

The 1st XV Cup Competitions are to start in May due to waiting for the completion of the various League Seasons followed by the Papa John’s Cup. The Draw was made at the NLD Conference and details have been released.  All are visible on GMS now.

Please note for those fixtures where the ability to play of teams is not delayed by closing leagues out or the Papa John’s they can mutually agree to play using the current date as a must play by date. If Clubs choose this option, they must inform me so that GMS can be updated accordingly and the Referee Society informed.

Congratulations go to Boston Ladies Team who are down at Twickenham for the Takeover Day and also to Amber Valley Ladies who have reached the Quarter Finals stage of the Papa John’s Junior Plate.
