CLUB LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT LEAD

REPORTS TO: NLDRFU Management Committee

NATURE & SCOPE OF ROLE:

To lead on all club development related matters for NLD, including the promotion of Constituent Body (CB), RFU or external volunteering awards with clubs and collation of nominations for submission. Work with the NLD Management Committee on the creation of a succession planning process, to ensure there are always volunteers ready and willing to step up or provide cover for key roles. This includes promotion of the RFU’s Leadership programmes to aid development of both club and CB volunteers.

Liaison and close working with the RFU’s Club Development Manager to ensure that the RFU and CB’s strategic objectives are pursued and met.

The Role is appointed for a term of three years, or such other duration as agreed by the NLDRFU Management Committee and subject to a maximum of three terms. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Liaison with clubs on a regular basis to establish needs for volunteer and leadership, to include meeting with RFU Club Development Manager.
  2. Promotion of good practice in volunteer Promote the Club Volunteer Coordinator role and host volunteer forums/workshops with the support of the local RFU Club Development Manager. Identify and share good practice in volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition through NLD Communications. Signpost clubs to useful resources, e.g. volunteer role descriptions.
  3. Identification of volunteers for participation in RFU Leadership programmes. Liaison with RFU Volunteer Manager to keep abreast of the opportunities provided by the RFU for individual leadership training within the game with a view to volunteers getting involved in the CB management.
  4. Promotion of volunteering engagement programmes. Promote the NLD Youth Council and RFU Young Rugby Ambassadors programme and support the creation of opportunities for young volunteers (aged 14-24). Promote Keep Your Boots On (KYBO!) and highlight the opportunities for retaining players in the game.
  5. Volunteer recognition and reward. Develop local intra NLD recognition and rewards schemes. Promote NLD and RFU volunteer recognition and reward opportunities to clubs, collate responses, check against records to ensure the volunteer hasn’t recently received high level R&R and submit nominations to RFU in good time. Liaise with NLDRFU’s Honorary Secretary and International Tickets contact to ensure that records are kept of volunteers receiving tickets and/or other RFU volunteer recognition and rewards.
  6. Communications with stakeholders. Liaise with clubs regularly to increase your understanding of volunteer achievements and issues. Promote and encourage engagement by clubs in NLD and RFU initiatives and opportunities including the various Leadership programmes, England Rugby Deals etc.

  • Well-organised with accurate and efficient IT and administrative skills
  • Interested in volunteer management/development matters
  • Well connected to clubs or willing to develop relationships
  • Pro-active, confident and good at communicating
  • Flexible and able to meet with clubs either online or through visits.
