The U15s Derbyshire Schools Rugby 7s competition will take place on 19 April 2023, giving Year 9 and 10 students the opportunity play competitive rugby representing their school.
Smaller team sizes mean that schools will be more likely to field a squad. Rugby 7’s is full contact and features most of the same rules as regular 15-a-side rugby – see Age Grade Rugby Guidance Sevens.
Squads are a maximum of 15 players, with 7 players on the field at any time. The 7 players on the pitch, will include 3 forwards who must be able to scrummage and 4 backs.

U13s Derbyshire Schools Rugby Festival
On Thursday 30th November, Derby RFC hosted the Derbyshire Schools Rugby festival for U13s students.
6 Schools from across the county participated, with 87 players taking part. The festival saw a mix of students from club players to students who had never played competitive rugby before.
We would like to thank the referees from NLD society who supported the officiating of the competition and were on hand to help guide the newer players so they had a positive experience of playing.
This competition was part of a new series of festivals for Derbyshire schools to participate in, with the U15s competition taking place the week before.
There will be a series of 7’s festivals taking place in April, for schools to participate in, so students have competitive rugby throughout the year.
