NLD Conference Cup Finals Day

Hundreds of girls from around 20 clubs in the region and beyond gathered across four venues to compete in the first-ever Conference Cup finals day on Sunday 16 March. The quality of rugby was exceptional, with one referee exclaiming, “That’s the best tackle I’ve ever seen!”.   The finals were fiercely contested, showcasing the growing strength of girls’ rugby across many clubs. The U14s Cup finalists were so evenly matched that the game was decided by a try in golden time.

A big thank you to all participants, host clubs Long Eaton, Newark, Nottingham Casuals, and Ashfield, and the referees and assistant referees who made this historic event possible.

After a season of tough matches and even tougher weather conditions, the U18G County Conference Cup Final did not disappoint! Mansfield faced off against the Derbyshire Dragons/Nottingham Casuals cluster in a game that had everything – skill, determination, and hard-fought battles across the pitch.

From the first whistle, both teams gave it their all, with the Dragons working hard to dominate possession. Despite spending plenty of time in the Mansfield half, converting chances proved challenging, while Mansfield showed their clinical edge, making the most of their opportunities.

The final score of Mansfield 53 – Derbyshire Dragons/Nottingham Casuals 31 reflects the intensity of the game, but more than anything, it highlights the incredible talent and heart from both sides. A huge congratulations to all the players for their commitment and sportsmanship – it was a brilliant display of rugby, and you should all be incredibly proud!
