President’s Update

Hello again!

I hope that you are all well and enjoying your Rugby in whichever way you choose to be involved.  For me, the season is flying by with what seems like ever increasing speed but that might just be down to my age!

Since I last wrote, my visits to our Clubs has continued and in this edition I’d like to focus on a very enjoyable day spent at Bakewell.

Beginning with an excellent lunch at the Lathkil Hotel in nearby Over Haddon, through to the traditional after match frivolities at the Thornbridge Brewery Tap Room, the day demonstrated superbly all that is good about our game.

In between we were treated to some excellent Rugby as Bakewell hosted Tupton in two games played at the still relatively new Shutts Lane ground.

The potential here is superb as the Club continue to develop a first-class facility with the addition of a Clubhouse and I wish them well in that quest.

A good crowd assembled to be entertained, and we certainly were with the Visitors claiming the spoils in both games although Bakewell 1s will still be wondering how they didn’t run out winners as the missed a couple of shots at goal in the closing minutes.

After the game there was a direction to assemble at the Thornbridge Tap Room where speeches were made, and much merriment was had.  I think that this sets Rugby apart from most every other sport and is something we should value – it brings people together and ensures that we don’t lose sight of our values.

A huge thank you to Bakewell for being excellent hosts.  Being President is a genuine honour in that it provides an opportunity to take a look at the Three Counties in a way in which I haven’t previously.  I am already looking forward to my next visit – each Club is unique and there is much we can learn from one another.

As I finish I’d like to place on record my thanks to all of you that contribute to the game in any way – none of what we achieve happens without YOUR support and input!

Finally, as Christmas approaches, may I wish you and your families, a happy and peaceful time and I look forward to seeing you all on the other side!
