Sam Strickson has been named as one of the members on the RFU’s National Youth Council (NYC).
Sam was the President of the men’s rugby union club at University of Lincoln where he was an outstanding student leader, during his year of office he successfully installed a new standalone Touch club, a new men’s 3rd team and increased the volunteer base at the University.
Sam went to Lincoln University from West Bridgford RFC and since graduating in June 2014, he has returned to his previous club and taken on a position as the RFU Area 4 Student Rugby Football Union (SRFU) Representative, all this on top of a new full time job as a sports development officer within Leicestershire.
Formed for the first time in 2009 the NYC was introduced so that the RFU were able to listen to the views of young people involved in the game.
On his new position Sam commented ‘I am really looking forward to getting started with the National Youth Council and working with other like-minded people from across the country; helping to make a difference and help hopefully create a solid grassroots legacy from the up and coming Rugby World Cup in England next year. With the main aim of the council to help recruit and retain 14-25 year olds in rugby I am looking forward to organising and putting on celebration events for the younger volunteers and rugby ambassadors celebrating their commitment to the sport. And who doesn’t love free stash!’
