Following the recent U16’s and U17’s NLD Trials, the following players have been included in the squad for the NLD Trial Match to take place on WEDNESDAY 25 FEBRUARY 2015 at NEWARK RUGBY CLUB.
Players are asked to bring their own Shorts and Socks – Team Shirts will be provided.
Whilst there will be a Physio present on the evening, she will not be available for strapping. Any players who require strapping should ensure they bring sufficient tape and bandages for their own needs.
Kick-Off will be at 7:00 p.m. and players are asked to meet at 6:00 p.m. for a pre-match briefing on the evening’s programme.
Please note that players may be asked to play in an alternative position during the match at the Coaches’ discretion with a view to offering players the opportunity to demonstrate ability in various roles.
Following the match, the Coaches will select a smaller squad who will participate in a number of U17’s matches against other Constituent Body teams in the same age group.
The Trials have given the Coaches an opportunity to see well in excess of 100 players at the two age groups and, following the U17’s matches, a final squad will be announced.
These players will join the existing 11 to make up the NLD U18’s Squad who will participate in the Midlands Championship at the beginning of next season.
We have seen a number of players missing out on the Trials owing to injury. Players are advised to consider carefully the rugby they may be playing immediately prior to an NLD game.
It may be beneficial to discuss with the relevant School/Club Coach whether it is necessary to play in a particular match. Consideration should be given to managing game time by perhaps playing a limited part in matches which carry no significance.
Of course, such decisions need to be taken by the players in conjunction with parents and coaches. For clarity, the NLD will never restrict players from taking part in rugby at school and club level. These matters form part and parcel of decision making for higher level players, and are very much a part of developing maturity.
In turn, the Constituent Body’s role is to offer young players the best possible opportunity to progress their rugby at the highest representative level possible.
All players are required to confirm their availability for Wednesday’s game by Friday 20 February to:
