Last Sunday saw the second ever NLD U13 Development Festival take place at Ashfield RFC.  This festival was the idea of NLD U13-16 Competitions Secretary Carol Badmin who wanted to encourage teams that had perhaps not had the easiest season and give them a fun, end of year festival against teams of a similar standard.

With the aim of 4 teams taking part it was disappointing that only 2 could make it on the day.  However both Ashfield & Long Eaton U13’s had a brilliant game of rugby and the players all enjoyed themselves, the main aim of the day.

With Long Eaton having limited numbers able to attend, Ashfield in the true spirit of the game leant them some players and a lively competitive fixture ensued.

With medals presented to all of the players, plus refreshments provided post match it was a reminder of the core values of the game – Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship.

NLD RFU Council Member Tracy Edmundson went along to the festival and said ‘The weather was a little damp but the players all came off the pitch with big smiles on their faces after a great game of rugby’.

This festival is something that NLD are keen to develop in the future having run very successfully in 2014 as well with a view to offering the opportunity to other age groups as well.
