The weather was definitely one of the biggest challenges at the NLD U14 Sevens Festival at Lincon RFC yesterday, wind & rain meant difficult and cold conditions. All the clubs involved and the organisers at Lincoln did a fantastic job in keeping the day running and there was some hugely competitive rugby on show.
Newark A made it a dominant weekend for the club by winning the Cup Competition. Their U16’s also took the Cup in their Sevens competition at Sleaford. Newark convincingly overcame Stamford in the Final 29-5 having just edged Market Rasen Greens in a tight semi-final encounter 14-12.
Bakelock Baba’s A team took the Plate back to Derbyshire beating Southwell 17-15 in an extremely close final. Bakelock Baba’s had beating home team Lincoln convincingly in their Semi Final while Southwell had a bye to the Final as Melbourne declined to play.
Dronfield continued a purple path for the club by claiming the Shield title as they beat Ashfield 19-5.
Newark B’s didn’t let their A team take all the silverware as they beat Market Rasen Reds in a close encounter 7-5 to win the Bowl final.
The Rugby Man was the final trophy on offer and Ilkeston were delighted to beat Paviors in the Final, running out convincing 26-5 winners. Ilkeston coach Mark Binch was thrilled with his side’s achievement and commented ‘Our lads were soaked through, cold and wet, yet were still buzzing at the end of it! Thanks for a superb Sevens tournament’.
Congratulations to all of the teams on their success and huge thanks to Lincoln for their hospitality.
