Nottingham Moderns hosted the first annual Nottingham Universities Challenge Trophy between University of Nottingham Fresher’s and Nottingham Trent University Fresher’s . The aim was to provide a competitive game for players at both universities who were not playing in the British universities Championship (BUCS). Both teams chose squads of 22 players so in total the game provided keen competition for 44 players . A highly competitive game ,great skills and commitment and played in a great spirit. U of N where convincing winners on the night ,great displays from everyone with James Adamson giving an outstanding display at No 8 scoring 3 tries and Alex Verissimo showing lightening pace to score 2tries. Nottingham Moderns provided the trophy, the referee for the game – the esteemed Dave Hassall and a “ pie and a pint” for all who took part. This was helped with some funding from NLD which was made available to Moderns for their innovate work in engaging players aged 16-24.
Of the 44 on show at least 10 have played competitive club games at local clubs .Pictured are Alex Verissimo and JC Nwufah who have played at Nottingham Moderns as well as Alex Travers who captained the side. A quote from JC who plays at Moderns about his experience at the club is included below:
“Been a pleasure playing with you boys this season, great to meet so many new people from different walks of life and see Nottingham. Thanks, and look forward to next season!” – JC Nwufah.
