Leicestershire vs NLD U16’s
26Th February 2017
This was the final game of the NLD under 16s season. The season had been affected by poor weather which impacted on training, so we could expect that the weather would once again not give us an easy ride. The wind was whipping round, line outs were struggling, balls kicked straight at posts ended up in Llandudno and both teams were blown around the pitch, which did not make for a free flowing game.
Leicestershire coped better with the weather than we did and ran three ties past us in the first half, converting two before NLD managed to fight back with a try from Elliott Caunt.
Given the windy conditions our kicking was not as accurate as we would have wanted and Leicestershire took full advantage of this.
In the second half the NLD rallied and there was some excellent defence with NLD getting to the breakdown more quickly and putting some good pressure on Leicestershire. Despite the NLD efforts Leicestershire scored again quickly in the second half. NLD were able to run a try past Leicestershire in the first 5 minutes of the second half thanks to the efforts of Will Harding-Terry with the try grounded by Adam Hopkins, which was successfully converted by Joe Barnes.
The final score was 50 to 12 to Leicestershire, which was disappointing for the players and not reflective of their abilities or the amount of work they put in, both in training and the game.
The NLD U16 season has now ended and we wish all the players well in their future rugby careers. For those of you who make it in rugby we hope we have played a small part in your journey and for those of you who make other choices, we hope you got things from your time with us to help you there.
For all the players we have seen this season who have turned up to training in filthy weather, because you were committed, who turned out to play in pitches so muddy that your parents had no idea who any of you were by the time you left the field, who have been rained on, blown about , who have seen players dejected and have supported them, who have strived to do their best and have kept on trying to the last whistle; then you have learned discipline, team work, persistence and determination which will stand you in good stead anywhere. You are a credit to your families and we look forward to seeing you go on to a bright future.
