On Saturday, Ashbourne Rugby Club held its Annual Luncheon at the Empire Club. Ashbourne for past players, life-members, vice-presidents, sponsors and supporters.
A warm welcome was given to Mayor and Mayoress of Ashbourne, Ian and Joan Bates, President of Derbyshire RFU, David Oldham, Match Ball Sponsor Phil Chell and Ashbourne’s President and current NLD President David Heath.
Following an excellent meal provided by Uppercrust, the Mayor of Ashbourne made a Mayors Award to Jean Brown for her service and dedication to Ashbourne Rugby Club spanning many years and she was given a standing ovation.
The Club then presented a cheque to Chris Massey and Martin Shaw who this week will be doing a car run from Stoke on Trent to Monaco raising funds for the Donna Louise Hospice.
David Heath thanked everybody for attending the event and was delighted his last formal event as NLD President was at his home of rugby – Ashbourne. He thanked his family and Club for their support during his tenure as President.
He then praised the work of Mick Pepper, saying that all Clubs have a Mick Pepper but Ashbourne have the real one!!
To raise funds for the Club, they held a draw and thanked members for donating prizes.
