Joe Cox, a student of Derby Grammar an NLD Society Referee visited Tanzania this summer with a group from DG to help build a school.
During their visit they managed to help to build the walls of the classroom as well as teaching children of Gedeli School Maths, English and Sport.
Matt Jefferson (Rugby Development Officer for Derbyshire) had donated some old equipment which Joe was able to present to the school. Joe took the time to coach rugby to the students and shared his knowledge of the rules with the sports teacher so he could continue to coach the game. By the end of the time that Joe spent at Gedeli School, he had transformed pupils, who had never heard of rugby and didn’t understand the concept of the sport, to rugby players.
