Leicester Tigers would like to invite you to nominate boys in the U13 / Year 8 age group to be selected for our Regional Developing Player Programme (DPP).
The DPP is managed in partnership with the RFU and Staffordshire, NLD, Eastern Counties (Norfolk) and Leicestershire Constituent Bodies. The DPP provides high quality player development opportunities for players aged 12 to 16. The primary aim is to enhance the development of promising players across the region whilst clearly identifying players that are suitable for Leicester Tigers Academy.
They would like club and school coaches to carefully select up to 5 players for nomination. Players should show above average standards in their core skills of catch & pass, tackle and contact and / or have excellent game understanding and tactical awareness.
They also encourage you to nominate any players that have outstanding physical qualities or potential (speed, size, height, strength).
They expect a high level of commitment to the programme and want players who will thrive in a physically and mentally challenging environment.
If you feel you have more than 5 players that meet the nomination requirements please write to us at [email protected] with supporting information.
Please complete the online nomination form by December 31st 2015.
The nominations will be administered centrally and players will be invited to attend an assessment session at their local each centre in January.

Following a recently reported incident, NLD would like to re-emphasise the importance of following the RFU Headcase Protocols for a Graduated Return to Play after a suspected concussion. We recommend that this decision should not be left to the player alone to decide but is the joint responsibility of the Medical Professional, the coach, the player’s club or school, the player and the player’s parents if still under 19 on 1st September.
We would also recommend that all persons who have anything to do with selecting and putting a team on the pitch become familiar with the RFU Graduated Return to Play protocols by accessing and completing the RFU online Headcase course. This course is a free course and can be found here.
NLD RFU would like all players from the age of 13 upwards, including Seniors, to complete an online survey giving your views on different aspects of the game. As the heading says, it is ‘Your Game’ and this is the chance to have ‘Your Say’.
The survey should only take around 5 minutes to complete and can be accessed using the following link
The survey is for players to gather your own views. Once we have your thoughts, we can review how our competitions/playing offer meets the needs of players in our modern game and if need be, amend our offer as a CB. This will also give our clubs further understanding of their players wants and needs. Please complete this survey by the end of April, so we can review the results.
Due to a change in personnel at Leicester Tigers the Under 13 DPP assessments have been delayed. The assessments will go ahead and you should expect a communication from the DPP centre Head Coaches by Friday, March 6th.
Thanks you for your understanding and patience at this challenging time.
Following the successful delivery and review of the 2013-14 season of the ‘Leicester Tigers Developing Player Programme’, 2014-15 will see the programme expand to be delivered at nine centres across the Leicester Tigers region. The programme provides a clear and structured package of quality coaching for new and existing players between the ages of 13 and 16. As a result of the review and expansion of the programme Leicester Tigers in partnership with the RFU are looking to recruit highly dedicated and motivated coaches with the skills and attributes required to meet the needs of young players in this crucial period of their lives.
The programme is an evolution of the existing CB ‘Schools of Rugby’ and the well-established Leicester Tigers ‘Elite Player Development Group’ programme; it will seek to provide a consistent, high quality experience to encourage lifelong participation in the sport and enable those with talent to be clearly identified and find their ideal pathway, whether that is into professional rugby or lifelong participation at a level appropriate to them within their Constituent Body (CB).
If any of the qualities below sound like you then we would like to hear from you:
- Drive and a passionate commitment to developing young players’ abilities and enhancing their lives.
- A dedication to excellence in everything that you do.
- A ‘go the extra mile’ attitude in your preparation and follow up.
- The capacity to establish clear goals, create long terms development programmes based on those goals and systematically guide players towards their achievement.
If you would like to become a part of the development of the next generation of English rugby talent then please send your coaching CV and a covering letter/email to Matt Williams (Academy Development Coach at Leicester Tigers) at [email protected]
