The first match of the National Finals day at Twickenham tomorrow will see Buxton RFC take on Old Cranleighans at 11.00am in the Junior Vase. Buxton surprised many by becoming the first team in two years to beat Wetherby RFC in the semi-final and are in a remarkable run of form themselves having gone unbeaten in the league this season.
For Old Cranleighans, the final will be their first competitive match at Twickenham in over 50 years and they will go into the game with confidence having earned promotion from Surrey 1 this season.
Due to the early start, Buxton are travelling down to London Friday evening with a number of supporters travelling on coaches early Saturday. The whole club is excited and looking forward to what should be a great experience.
Pat Leahy said; ‘Hopefully we can maintain our good form and come away with the trophy. A lot of work has gone into ensuring the club and team are prepared for the game. Could you please pass on our thanks for all the messages of support we have received.’
NLD Council Member Tracy Edmundson will be at Twickenham to support Buxton and commented; ‘What a finish this is going to be to a fantastic season for the club! It is a fantastic opportunity and I know everyone within NLD will be wishing them luck’.
