An enjoyable afternoon of rugby at Strutts Fields saw the Belper home teams score two convincing wins over Buxton. Following the two matches, Belper RUFC was delighted to welcome the visiting teams to a presentation at the clubhouse of the RFU Club Accreditation Award.

Presenting the award, Les Davis, President of Derbyshire RFU said “It’s been a very enjoyable and good natured afternoon of rugby and I am delighted to be here to present this award today. Belper is one of the few clubs in Derbyshire so far to achieve this recognition, and I have been very impressed with the list of initiatives and activities within the club.

This Club Accreditation award recognises the club’s achievement in key areas: retaining and developing players; recruiting new players; recruiting and retaining high quality coaches, volunteers and referees; effective and efficient facilities, management and governance; and integration with the local community. With the RFU Core Values, this all leads to a strong and sustainable club.

This accreditation has been awarded for both the senior and youth sections of the Club. As a result, Belper also achieves the Sport England Clubmark for the Mini and Youth section, which is a thriving area of the club.”

Simon Blount, President of Belper RUFC said “This award is the result of a lot of hard work behind the scenes as the club continues to grow and develop. It’s a great achievement for us.

Belper Rugby Club is approaching its 40th anniversary since forming and has been on its present purpose built site at Strutts Fields for over 10 years. The club has two senior teams and a Vets team, and over 100 registered minis and juniors players aged between 5-19. The club is entirely run by volunteers and opens its doors and facilities to many community groups and charity events throughout the year. Our thanks go to the players and volunteers across the whole club that make it welcoming and successful”.
