GMS data 2018-19 season – International Ticket Allocations Update

You will have seen in our March Community Game Update upcoming changes to international ticket allocations, which require community clubs’ action for the end of the season. Here is a summary of the new allocation process and the actions required to take to ensure each club receives the correct allocation.

  • Allocations to community clubs will now be based primarily on the number of 15-a-side matches their teams play. All 15-a-side matches (U14s to adult, both male and female) count towards a club’s overall total.
  • All matches must be recorded on the club’s GMS Team Management module in order for the RFU to calculate the correct ticket allocation.
  • The new allocation that a club will receive will be based on the cumulative number of matches played across the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
  • The ticket allocation will be reviewed and updated every two seasons after that.

The deadline for entering all 2018-2019 matches is Friday 17 May 2019. Using the 2018-19 data, the RFU will forecast and share the indicative number of international tickets community clubs and geographic Constituent Bodies (CBs) can expect to receive. The actual allocations will be finalised once the results from the 2019-20 season have been collected.

Apart from determining ticket allocations, inputting your club’s matches will provide the RFU with a clear view of the health of the game and inform a review of the 2018-19 season. If there are significant gaps in your GMS matches and teams data, please contact your RDO to provide a more accurate update.

Half Game – a Regulation from 2019-20 season

Half Game will become a regulation in all Age Grade Rugby across clubs, schools, colleges, representative pathways and Academy activities from next season. This will ensure that all players in a match-day squad play at least half a game.

Young players were the driving force for the introduction of Half Game, while University of Essex research shows that players who regularly play half a game or more report more enjoyment, self-esteem and rugby-playing competence. They are also six times more likely to enjoy our game than those who don’t.

Regular information will be available to help everyone to prepare for the 2019-20 season. At this stage, we are asking competition organisers to ensure that their regulations for next season support Half Game and all involved in the Age Grade game to both spread the word and prepare for implementation.

Further information can be found here.

RFU Funding and Payment of Players Reminder

Clubs at Level 3 and below are reminded that to receive RFU funding (including travel and the supplemental pot distribution) they need to submit Payment of Player declarations before Sunday 30 June. This underpins the new Payment of Player regulations set out in RFU Regulation 7. Please find link to how to submit the declaration via GMS here.

Sign up for Inner Warrior Camps this May

We’re delighted to confirm the next wave of the hugely successful Inner Warrior campaign will run from 10 to 26 May. The campaign has already succeeded in getting more women involved in rugby, many never having had a chance to pick up a rugby ball before.

Registration for your club to run a Warrior Camp is now open and the deadline for registrations is Monday 15 April.

Watch this video from Alban Barnes, Head of Girls Rugby at Fullerians RFC, on how they maximised their Warrior Camps’ benefit. Fullerians hosted their first Warrior Camp to kick off their women’s section in January 2017. That evening 28 women took part and since then, it’s gone from strength to strength. They continued using Warrior Camps to boost numbers and reach new people, as well as developing partnerships with nearby schools, local colleges and the County Sport Partnership.

Any questions about Warrior Camps or the Inner Warrior campaign can be sent to [email protected] and make sure your club has signed up to host a camp here.

RFU Level 3 Coaching Course

Demand has been so high for the RFU Level 3 coaching course that, although we enrolled a record number of coaches and a 25% increase for 2019/20, some coaches missed out. The course involves year long mentoring support for each coach in their own coaching environment so numbers enrolled is dependent on the number of qualified mentors available. Based on this year’s demand we will be working to grow this further next year.

Entry requirements were changed to have a greater impact on player experience and retention. With open access, places were allocated on a first come/first served basis. However, coaches from across all parts of the game are still required to demonstrate the same standards as previously to successfully complete the course.

Through the 2019/20 season we will be providing around 2,500 courses nationwide, tens of thousands of hours of mentoring support, outstanding digital content and further growing our eLearning offer. Premiership Rugby clubs are offered thousands of places on club specific coach development courses and via the England Rugby Coaches Association there will be additional coach development opportunities.

NLD U17s Announcement

March 29th, 2019 by

The provisional NLD U17s Squad had a run out on Sunday against visitors from Eastern Counties.

The match day format saw 36 NLD players perform over four match sessions with the two sides proving to be equally matched. The games provided the Coaching Team with the opportunity to see how the players performed in a live match situation, and a number of those involved certainly stepped up to the mark.

Before reducing the Squad numbers to a more manageable level, there will be two further games, preceded by a training session. The dates for those events are as follows:

Monday 15 April

Venue: Newark RFC

Registration: from 18:00

Training 18:30 – 20:00

Wednesday 24 April

NLD U17s v Leics. U17s.

Venue: Newark RFC

Meet: 18:00

Kick-off: 19:30

Sunday 28 April

Eastern Counties/East Mids U17s v NLD U17s

Venue: TBC

Kick-off: TBC

The Coaching and Management Team will be selecting two squads for the respective games so we can, once again, provide players with as many opportunities as possible to showcase their ability and press their claim for inclusion in the final Squad. The majority of players will be involved in only one fixture, however, due to positional requirements, some players may need to be available for both games.

Following completion of these fixtures, the Squad numbers will be reduced and announcement on those selected to go forward will appear here in due course.

After a year’s sabbatical, NLD is delighted to announce that the Seniors programme is to be relaunched with the selected Squad taking part in the Bill Beaumont Senior Men’s County Championship this season.

With a view to re-establishing the Seniors as the flagship representative side within NLD, a new team has been appointed to oversee the programme in preparation for the forthcoming matches.

Nathan Eggleshaw (Paviors RFC), together with Roxy Fearon (Derby RFC) and Nathan Smith (Kesteven RFC & RFU) will take the reins and will be responsible for the training, selection and management of the NLD Senior Squad who will compete in the Group Stage with matches against Oxfordshire, Cumbria and North Midlands.

The new team expressed how excited they were to be involved in the prestigious Senior programme.

Nathan Eggleshaw commented that “Playing for the seniors and pulling on that NLD shirt was always a great experience and a privilege and we want to share that passion with the players and provide them with an opportunity to represent at this elevated level.”

Roxy Fearon added that, “Representing the Three Counties is a terrific honour but we also want it be an experience the players can enjoy towards the end of the season.”

Nathan Smith added that, “NLD has a proud history in the Seniors competition and we want this year’s Squad to go away with a sense of satisfaction and achievement at the end of the campaign.”

Invitations will be going out from the Team in the coming days and training dates will be announced at the same time.

The fixtures will take place on:

Saturday 04 May
Oxfordshire v NLD

Saturday 11 May
NLD v Cumbria

Saturday 18 May
North Mids v NLD

Venues for the games will be announced shortly as we build towards recreating the flagship programme within NLD and generating an environment within which the CB’s best players can be challenged and rewarded in amateur rugby’s premier competition.

NLD U17s Squad announcement

March 21st, 2019 by

Squad to play Eastern Counties U17s on Sunday 24 March 2019

Having reduced the provisional U17s Squad to 43 players, a group of players has now been selected to play in the match versus Eastern Counties U17s at Newark RFC on Sunday 24 March 2019.

As was explained to players and parents at last night’s training session, we still have over 40 players, and it would not be productive to take all players forward for this initial game.

At this stage in the process, there will be players who may have already shown enough potential to be included within the final Squad. Similarly, there are other players who need the opportunity in a match situation to endorse their credentials and convince the Coaches that they merit a place going forward.

Player development and experience lies at the heart of NLD philosophy, and we try to provide the players with every opportunity to showcase their ability and demonstrate that they are capable of making the final Squad.

The following players have been selected for the Eastern Counties game:

Taran ELMS

Aneirin LEWIS

Joseph MOORE

Nathaniel WIGLEY

Players are asked to be at Newark RFC by 13:00.

Kick-off will be at 14:30 and the format will probably be 3 x 25 minute games (tbc).

NLD kit will be provided but players are reminded to bring warm outer clothing and hydration for the periods when they are not involved in the match.

Food will be provided after the game for the players and can also be purchased by spectators/parents as there will be full bar and catering facilities open.
