During recent weeks, the NLD have held trials for both U16’s and U17’s players with a view to establishing the U18 squad which will compete in the Midlands Championship next season.
Over the course of the trials and subsequent matches, we have experienced withdrawals through unavailability and injury which has resulted in a shortage in the depth of cover in a number of positions; notably at Hooker and in the Second Row.
In order to make sure we can produce a competitive squad, which will provide talented players with the best possible chance to progress to Midlands trials, we have decided to invite schools and clubs to nominate SUITABLE players in these positions ONLY.
This is not a call for general nominations. It is aimed specifically at talented Hookers and Second Row players who may have missed out in the initial trial phase.
Coaches and teachers are reminded that the NLD expects nominated players to be of the very highest standard in order to compete at this level and the RFU’s Positional Criteria is available here should anyone need to refer to the notes describing the attributes we are looking for.
PLEASE NOTE – ANY NOMINATIONS SHOULD ONLY BE MADE ON BEHALF OF PLAYERS WHO HAVE NOT ALREADY ATTENDED TRIALS FOR THE SQUAD.
There will be a further training session at Newark on Monday 21 March followed by additional matches prior to the announcement of the final squad. Coaches and teachers are requested to forward nominations for consideration to the squad manager, Lee Slack urgently at:
