Junior Competition Finals 2021/22

The 2021-22 NLD Junior Competition came to an end on 1st May as the U13s and U15s played in the last of the Finals Days for the season.

The format of this season’s tournament was a little different to previous years, and included the U13s in the same format as other age groups as oppose to their U13s Festival that has been held as a one-day event in the past.

A total of 72 teams took part across the four age groups. It was fantastic to see so many young boys turning out for their clubs after such a long break from rugby through the pandemic. Overall the competition has been played in good spirits with respect shown to each other, clubs and officials.

NLD would like to thank all the coaches, managers, first aiders and clubhouse staff who have contributed to the success of the competition by putting in all the hard work with the players in preparation for matches, and for welcoming each other to their clubs. It has been great to see the feedback from clubs praising their opponents after a game.

Thanks must also go to the NLDRFU Referee Society, and especially Spike Sheldon, who accommodated (quite frequent!) last minute changes in KO times to provide officials for games throughout the tournament and on our Finals Days.

The Finals Days themselves, held over two weekends at Boston RFC & Newark RUFC, were a great success with lots of clubs competing for trophies on each day. The host clubs did a fantastic job of organising all the logistics of the days and the comments from clubs have been very complimentary.

The NLDRFU Junior Competitions Committee, which this year only comprised of Dave Duddles and Katherine Wells, will be looking for volunteers to help in the running of next year’s competition, so if you fancy getting involved, please get in touch with Katherine at [email protected]
