Following the Inter-Squad matches last night at the University of Nottingham, the current U17’s squad has been reduced in number, prior to the warm-up game against East Midlands U17’s on Sunday 08 April.
The Coaching and Management team have been very impressed with the level of skills demonstrated by the players this year and this has made selection particularly difficult. As the players were told last night, while it is always disappointing for those who miss out, they should all take pride in getting this far. Trialling for representative rugby is something most players never experience and is an achievement in itself.
We hope those who have missed out this time will return to their Schools and Clubs and continue to enjoy their rugby and maintain their fitness. Everyone was advised last night that being omitted from the Squad going forward is not a ‘No’ – it’s just a ‘Not now’.
During the coming campaign which starts again in September, the Squad will undoubtedly suffer withdrawals for injury and so forth and the players who made it to trial will be very much in the minds of the Coaches if replacements need to be called up. That’s why maintaining fitness and conditioning remains very important to everyone involved so far.
The revised Squad, who will go forward to the East Midlands game on Sunday 08 April is as follows (a further posting will be made on this web site regarding times and venues for the rest of this programme):
