The Midlands campaign recently culminated in the final Super Sunday games at Broasdstreet RFC on 17 December and Wednesday saw the convening of the Selectors and Assessors at the Midlands grading meeting. Subsequent to that meeting, the following NLD players have been selected to attend the Midlands trials which will take the form of two sessions on Sunday 28 January and Sunday 04 February at Leicester Grammar School:
Congratulations to these 11 players, who will form a quarter of the initial Midlands Squad, which is great achievement across the six CB’s represented in the campaign – well done!
To those players who were not selected, commiserations. However, everyone involved with the NLD programme this season should be extremely proud of their achievements. Playing at a representative level for the CB is a significant achievement in itself and something many players never aspire to.
From the Coaching and Management Team perspective, we can say that this Squad has been a pleasure to work with and the whole group should take pride from providing so many players to the Midlands Squad. The close knit support and sense of togetherness you all provided, enabled these players to impress the Selectors. Without the framework of operating as one ‘team’, individuals find it more difficult to shine and you should all take credit for the wider achievements of the Squad.
This campaign presented many challenges to the players, in particular having to deal with the tragic passing of squad member Max Hubbard and the unity of the squad playing for each other embodies the closeness these players generated for each other as the campaign progressed.
Congratulations to you all – we hope everyone enjoyed the NLD experience and we wish the 11 players named above every success in the Midlands games and Divisional Festival later in February.
