NLD Ladies v Yorkshire Match Report
NLD Ladies Match Report
Yorkshire v NLD Sunday 30.4.17
Definition of Teamwork: “the combined efforts or actions of a group of individuals working together to achieve a common purpose or goal”.
NLD Ladies are playing in the RFU National Cup Competition for the first time following last season unbeaten in the Shield Competition. Our NLD Ladies travelled to Yorkshire to play their first round in the Cup which was always going to be a challenge knowing Yorkshire’s strength & depth.
Both teams played from start to finish with determination and ferocity with quick ball, hard play and dogged defending. Although under pressure for much of the match from the more experienced Yorkshire side, who were running well-rehearsed lines through their 10 and 12 and managing to create overlaps on both wings seemingly at will, NLD put up a good fight with the first 20 minutes seeing several turnover ball and penalties in our favour. Scrums were evenly matched throughout the match with no side gaining the upper hand but Yorkshire were able to keep the scoreboard ticking over, aided by some inspired spot kicking, and finished the first half with a comfortable lead. The second half saw much the same with Yorkshire putting NLD under pressure in all areas of the pitch and things were made harder for NLD when 2 infringements resulted in back to back yellow cards and NLD having to play the last 20 minutes with 14 players.
Even though the NLD Ladies were “outplayed” by their Yorkshire counterparts there are many positives they can rightfully take from this match. Their teamwork throughout was outstanding. They always supported each other and competed to the final whistle. At no time did their heads drop or their intensity in contact flag. For a team that has little experience playing at this level they competed with confidence and gave a good account of themselves both on and off the pitch. They have given themselves a solid foundation on which to build.
NLD Ladies have home games on the next 2 Sundays, 7th and 14th May, at Southwell RFC, against Staffordshire and North Midlands respectively. KO 3pm. All visitors and supporters welcome.
