North Hykeham RUFC have been successful in the first part of a two phase funding application to Sport England. The entire project is to increase and improve floodlighting at their Memorial Field ground and subsequently increase player recruitment, retention & performance, the applications were written by former Club Captain, Andy Rush whilst he is ‘having a season away from Club duties’!
Part 1 is to fund High Specifciation mobile floodlighting for the Club’s training area and 2nd pitch, allowing for rotational use and increased lighting coverage, in addition to the existing stantions. The application to Sport England’s ‘small grants scheme’ was successful and 100% of the grant was awarded, £10,000. Part 2 is a £64,000 application to Sport England’s ‘Inspired facilities fund’ for permanent full pitch floodlighting on the Club’s main pitch. This application is through to the final phase of assessment and an outcome is expected soon. Both of these applications have been well supported by the Club’s main sponsors, M Gladwin Electrical & Software Europe, the Memorial PFA and The RFU; and are alongside the RFU’s Satellite Junior Rugby initiative between the Club and Robert Pattinson Academy.
“The Club has set itself some very challenging targets for player recruitment, particularly players aged 14-25 and the success of these funding applications are crucial to the Club fulfilling its ambitions. The £10,000 award alone is so significant for a small club like North Hykeham, to give some perspective that figure is equal to our entire Subscription turnover for 5 years! Regardless of the success of the bids financially, the process of these applications is so rigorous its given the Club a good Audit of where we are and where we need to improve our operations and provision to provide a better Rugby Union offer in North Hykeham”.
