On Saturday 2nd January a whole host of new and existing Under 18 – Under 24 players from five clubs to blow the ‘cobwebs’ out of the system from the Christmas & New Year break. Over 100+ targeted players playing different formats of the game, from 7s to 15s. The aim of the targeted event is to net players who have left the game, players who have returned from University and players who don’t get enough games.
Thanks goes to Club Volunteer, Chris Brookes of Long Eaton RFC, Community Rugby Coaches Gary Rudkin & Sean Wright as well as the NLD Referee Society who ensured the day went smoothly. Equally, the day also included the very successful ‘Return 2 Rugby’ players from Derby RFC.
Weather was poor but enthusiasm was high, which was great credit to all the clubs involved. Even one player from Chesterfield Panthers, came along with no intention to play, as well as no kit whatsoever but was issued with ‘odds and sods’ from other players kit bags as well as raiding the host clubs lost property bin to allow him to play. Well done to everyone involved in marking the day a huge success.
