Over 160 local athletes, mentors and school pupils came to the Winding Wheel for the much anticipated inaugural Active Chesterfield Sports Awards. In association with Chesterfield Borough Council, the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership combined community sports awards with those for schools and school teams that have excelled over the past year. Sponsored by Pulse, Morgan Sindall, the Labour Party in Chesterfield and Avrato, the event promised to be a celebration and showcase of the greatest sporting talent that the town has to offer.
John Jefferson who has been a stalwart of the game for many years within NLD and Chesterfield RFC took home the Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional service to the sport.
John has been coaching Youth Rugby since he started teaching in 1974 and continued with both his sons and their teams at Chesterfield RFC through the 90s. He is still heavily involved in coaching at club, school and CB level and is a fantastic ambassador for the game.
John commented; ‘I am overwhelmed but honoured to receive the inaugural Active Chesterfield Lifetime Achievement Award and accept it on behalf of all those people who have supported me along the way. Rugby, with its inclusive ethos and emphasis on core values is a great medium for challenging young people of all abilities and backgrounds.’
