Little Ruggers Programme Success

Nottingham Rugby’s Little Ruggers programme was successfully introduced to North Nottinghamshire and Lady Bay last weekend, with both Paviors Rugby Club and Nottingham Corsairs now engaging with the young rugby players of the future.

Run in partnership with Mansfield-based industrial supplies firm Hall-Fast, the Little Ruggers launches at Paviors and Corsairs on Sunday morning were inundated with parents and their children, who wanted to take part in the rugby-themed activities on offer.

Over 40 children were present at Paviors’ Ron Rossin Ground, whilst the attendance at Lady Bay was into double figures.

Alongside the host clubs’ coaching staff, the Green and Whites’ community department have been helping to deliver the fun activity programmes for boys and girls aged between 2-5 years, whilst a parent or guardian helps them to develop basic sporting skills and take part in healthy activities.

Nottingham Rugby General Manager Steve Smith was clearly excited about the huge impact the programme is already having in the region, saying “Little Ruggers is a concept that has been running for over five years now and we are really pleased to be able to roll this out into the Rushcliffe area and in North Notts too. The programme differs from most others targeting young people in that it focuses on family engagement and parents / guardians getting involved and supporting their child.  The initial response has been fantastic and it’s brilliant to be working with so many youngsters and the next generation of rugby fans.”

Sessions are led by qualified rugby coaches, with adults required to take part in some of the activities and the programme has already proved to be a huge success in Keyworth and Bingham, with almost 30 children taking part at the first session in Keyworth and 40 children signing up in Bingham, with another 17 on the waiting list.

Paviors Rugby Club are based just outside Arnold on Burntstump Hill (NG5 8PQ) and Nottingham Corsairs* are based at Lady Bay, West Bridgford (NG2 5AA).

The next sessions will take place this Sunday (4th October) from 9.30-10.15am and then will continue take place every Sunday until 25th October, which will currently be the last of the run.

Each session costs just £2 per child and places are limited, so please email Paviors ([email protected]) or Corsairs ([email protected]), to book you child’s place.

*Please be aware that Corsairs’ age range is between 3-5 years.
