Roger Whittaker

We are sad to announce that Newark RFC member, Roger Whittaker, died last Thursday after a brief fight against cancer.

Roger was a well known face in NLD for many years, both as Player & Coach.  He played for Nottingham from 1968-1971 before joining Mellish Old Boys. His job then took him to Lincoln where he played for both Lincoln and Lincolnshire for several years, before injury intervened.

His illustrious coaching career started at Lincoln, before moves to Newark, Nottingham and Tigers. He eventually coached the Scottish Exiles and became Director of Rugby at Heriots, one of Scotland’s most prestigious clubs.

The Commemoration Servicel will take place at All Saints Church, Low St, Collingham on Friday 17th July at 3.00pm. Any of his former rugby friends would be most welcome, both to the Service and to share a memory at Newark Rugby Club afterwards.
