Nottingham Corsairs & Newark RFC have booked themselves a place in an all NLD Midlands Final in the National U17 Cup.
Corsairs overcame Ampthill in a thrilling game on 1st March at Lady Bay to set up a Semi Final clash with Leicestershire rivals Oakham on 15th March. The Nottinghamshire side led 13-0 with 5 minutes to go but a converted try from Oakham meant a nervy finish to the game.
Newark, who had a bye in the first round, made the long trip to Malvern worthwhile as they battled to a 22-19 win. A game that was played in fantastic spirit ran to wire with Malvern fighting back to the final whistle.
The two sides will now meet on Sunday 29th March at Broadstreet RFC in the Midlands National Cup Final KO 3pm. The two sides have a rich history of past matches and it promises to be an exciting encounter. Newark will be looking to exact their revenge on the side that beat them in the NLD U17 Cup Final at Southwell in February on the last occasion that they met.
One thing is for sure – NLD are guaranteed representation in the National Semi Final when the winner will take on the winners of the Northern division on 19th April.
In the Bowl competition Derby are also flying the NLD flag with pride – they beat Old Halesonians in their Midlands Semi Final to set up a Midlands Final Clash with Moseley, also on 29th March at Broadstreet KO 10.15am.
Best of luck to all three teams who are doing NLD proud.
