A Life Saving Xmas Present for Long Eaton RFC

During recent committee meetings, Long Eaton RFC recognised that there was a need for more qualified first aiders as the club membership continues to flourish.  In response, 16 members recently undertook a six hour rugby orientated course to gain their first aid certification.

It was also highlighted that the club would benefit from having a defibrillator as additional health and safety equipment given the number of players and fixture programme.  It was also noted that a defibrillator located in the clubhouse would benefit other park users in the vicinity if anything untoward should happen. The committee therefore decided that it would work to raise money over the next few months to purchase a defibrillator as soon as possible.

Further to this decision, club members Andy Scotland and his wife Kimberley recently attended an Abbott Risk Consulting (ARC) Ltd company event (Andy works for ARC in their Derby Office as a Principal Consultant).  Following discussions with a number of ARC Directors and the Managing Director, we are pleased to advise that ARC Ltd offered to purchase and donate a defibrillator to the club as part of its annual charitable donations and support of local community groups.

The defibrillator they have donated is a Lifepak CR Plus Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).  It comes with pads for both adult and junior use. This unit was created for lay users in commercial and public settings.

The Unit was presented to our President, Des Chapman by Kimberley Scotland on behalf of ARC Ltd.

Des thanked Abbott Risk Consulting for their kind donation, stating:

‘This vital equipment will enhance our club’s safety and protection of players, supporters and members along with the hundreds of others that use the park around the clubhouse. For some time, we have discussed the urgent need to hold a defibrillator on our premises, we are indebted to Abbott Risk Consulting Ltd for their generous donation, and their commitment to support sporting communities like ours.’
