Following a recently reported incident, NLD would like to re-emphasise the importance of following the RFU Headcase Protocols for a Graduated Return to Play after a suspected concussion. We recommend that this decision should not be left to the player alone to decide but is the joint responsibility of the Medical Professional, the coach, the player’s club or school, the player and the player’s parents if still under 19 on 1st September.

We would also recommend that all persons who have anything to do with selecting and putting a team on the pitch become familiar with the RFU Graduated Return to Play protocols by accessing and completing the RFU online Headcase course. This course is a free course and can be found here.

A copy of the Graduated Return to Play Protocols can also be found here and there is lots of information available on the RFU website.
